Financial aid is an important tool throughout a student’s time at Michigan Tech. To assist our current students, we have assembled a list of financial aid options that may be available to them.
Michigan Tech Scholarships: Applications Available to Current Students
- The Working Families Scholarship is available for undergraduate students who are Michigan residents, have at least one working parent, and have a FAFSA SAI between -1,500 and 16,000.

Michigan Tech Scholarships: Awarded When Students Initially Admitted
- The 906 Scholarship is available for incoming undergraduate students who are residents of the Upper Peninsula.

- The College of Business Dean’s Award is available for incoming undergraduate students who are non-Michigan residents and are pursuing a major in the College of Business at Michigan Tech.

- Awards can range from $2,000 up to $20,000 per year.
- The College of Business Impact Scholarship was previously awarded to undergraduate students who were enrolled in the College of Business.
- Awards were variable up to the value of full-time resident tuition.
- The College Partners Pathway Award is available for undergraduate, non-Michigan resident transfer students from Northcentral Technical College, Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, and the six campuses of Minnesota North College.

Grants
- The University Student Aid Grant is available for undergraduate students based on financial need and academic merit.
- Students must complete their FAFSA and have their results sent to Michigan Tech every year to be considered.
- Grants could range between $150 up to $22,000.
- The Federal Pell Grant is available for undergraduate students with significant financial need.
- Students must complete their FAFSA and have their results sent to Michigan Tech every year to be considered.
- Grants can be up to $7,395.
- The Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant is awarded to undergraduate students with exceptional financial need.

Resources are available to assist students who are in the foster care system, are homeless, or are a ward of the court.
Loans
- Federal Direct Loans are available for students who meet the Department of Education’s eligibility criteria.
- Students must complete their FAFSA each year to apply.

- Federal Direct PLUS (Parent) Loans are available for parents of dependent, undergraduate students who meet the Department of Education’s eligibility criteria.

- Alternative Loans from banks or other lending institutions are available for parents or students who meet the lender’s eligibility criteria.

Employment
The Federal Work-Study Program provides funding for part-time employment to students who are US citizens or permanent residents and have financial need as demonstrated by their FAFSA results.
All students, regardless of financial need, may apply for part-time on-campus student employment. Jobs range from reception desk staff members to campus tour guides, learning center coaches, and retail positions across campus. You can apply directly to the desired departments after arriving on campus.
Off-campus employment opportunities are available for students in the local community. Jobs include retail, restaurants, and everything in between.
Other Opportunities
- The Air Force ROTC Scholarship is available for students in the Air Force ROTC program.

- Athletic Grants are awarded based on athletic excellence to students selected by Michigan Tech coaches to participate in varsity athletics.

- The Detroit Promise is available for incoming first year undergraduate students who lived in Detroit, attended a high school in Detroit all four years of high school, and graduated from a high school in Detroit. Students must also have a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

- The Michigan Achievement Scholarship is available for undergraduate students who are Michigan residents and have an SAI from their FAFSA of 30,000 or less.

- The Michigan Children of Veterans Tuition Grant is available for students who are Michigan residents and who are the child of a Michigan veteran that died or became totally and permanently disabled as a result of military service.
